Hussam Khader Defense Committee. Hussam Khader is a member of the Palestinian Parliament and the Chair of the Committee for the Defense of Palestinian Refugee Rights. He has also been active in confronting corruption and collaboration in the Palestinian authority.

On March17, 2003 Khader was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces. Since his arrest , he has been subjected to brutal psychological and physical torture, including one year in solitary confinement.

Khader is the founder of the " Association for the Defence of the Rights of Palestinian Refugees " . He earned widespread acclaim among the Palestinian people for his refusal to accept anything less than the unconditional Right of Return of all Palestinian refugees to their original villages and homes.

Human rights organisations the world over have decried Khader's conditions of detention, the illegal interogation methods used, and the indadequate access to his lawyers . Khader is the second member of the Palestinian legislative council to be arrested after Marwan Barghouthi.

This unprecedented vote marks the first time that the Knesset has lifted the immunity of a MK so that s/he can be indicted for expressing a political opinion. ...MK Azmi Bishara faces two simultaneous trials for addressing the concerns of a public that elected him to do just that. The Palestinian citizens of Israel, who number some 1 million, constitute 20% of the total population of the state. The indictments against MK Azmi Bishara are part of a systematic attempt to intimidate, silence, and de-legitimize the democratic voice of the Palestinian citizens of Israel."
